Abstract

In 2008, the Mexican government implemented the program “B002-Generation and Dissemination of Information for the Consumer”. The objective of this article is to evaluate the impact on consumption and debt decision of the participants who attended the training program in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. The hypothesis is that training positively influences both debt decisions and debt control. In order to confirm this, an analysis of means was applied to two groups (control and experimental) with three variables: financial training, responsible and smart consumption, and indebtedness. The results show significant differences in consumption and in one out of the three components. It can be concluded that the program has a positive influence on the experimental group regarding risky debt decisions.
