Abstract

"Trauma" is a concept of clear psychoanalytic affiliation which has been gradually incorporated to historiography from the historical studies of the Holocaust. The object of this essay is to analyze and discuss the perspectives that are brought up with this incorporation. In order to do this, firstly we will review some aspects of the trauma concept in the work of Freud; secondly, the role of the testimonies made by Holocaust survivors in this conceptual transfer. Finally, we will analyze some of the formulations made by Friedländer and LaCapra regarding historical trauma, to conclude with some proposals to reflect on the destinies of trauma in the sociopolitical dimension and in psychology.
