An integrative perspective of adolescent pregnancy: home visitation program as an intervention strategy

Abstract

The present article faces the situation of the adolescent pregnancy from a biopsychosocial perspective, enfatizing the multidimentional magnitude and nature of this problem. Social consecuences, mother and child health and risk situations that are faced by the adolescent considering her maternity and the adolescence itself, are discussed. After a description of the adolescent pregnancy in a national and international level, based on data about prevalence and its distinctive characteristics on different contexts, it is presented and intervention strategy that has showed to be functional and effective in different countries: the home visitation program.The objective of the present article is to think over the situation of the adolescent pregnancy, from a sistematic and integral view, empowering its sinergic nature considering its relation with the prevention of other psychosocial problems.
